My Thoughts
As a longtime viewer of Hallmark movies, it’s such a pleasant surprise when the channel elevates its stories into something just a bit different than the norm, especially when it comes to Christmas movies. A Merry Scottish Christmas does all that and more in a delightful hour-and-a-half trip to the United Kingdom’s northern country. This movie sports gorgeous vistas, excellent acting, a fun (and surprising!) cameo, Easter eggs from a beloved nineties sitcom, a royal-adjacent storyline, and a heartfelt familial tale sure to warm anyone who sits by the fireside at Christmas.
Hallmark darling Lacey Chabert returns and, as always, charms from the beginning to end. Alongside her Party of Five co-star Scott Wolf, she plays half of the sibling duo who journey to Scotland under the guise of family togetherness only to discover a hidden history that will change the course of her life. Chabert and Wolf’s chemistry stir emotion and drive empathy throughout the movie. I was unfamiliar with Party of Five before watching A Merry Scottish Christmas, but these two paired together so well in the movie that I want to watch them in the show.
The plotline focus on familial drama and a sibling dynamic differentiates A Merry Scottish Christmas from other Hallmark movies, and what a mark this story makes because of it. With enough of a minor role for romance to support the main plotline and satisfy viewers’ desire for a good love story, A Merry Scottish Christmas delivers something for everyone. I hope the movie receives a resounding applause for the change because this one, truly, stands out as one of Hallmark Channel’s most well-done movies of the past few years.
I watched A Merry Scottish Christmas on Hallmark Channel of my own choice. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
